Shelter from the Stormy Blast is designed to help readers make thoughtful decisions and informed choices about disaster recovery services and products. Few disasters can be managed without outside help, yet locating such assistance often presents an unanticipated challenge added to already difficult conditions. Shelter from the Stormy Blast attempts to make this phase of disaster recovery easier.

Shelter from the Stormy Blast is intended for the use of libraries and archives, but records repositories, museums, historical societies, and other agencies will also find resources included with their needs in mind. Though prepared specifically for institutions in Georgia and the Southeast, much of the material will be of use to institutions throughout the United States.

Partners and History

Originally, Shelter from the Stormy Blast grew out of a disaster planning process conducted by the preservation committee of the Atlanta Regional Council for Higher Education. It was published by ARCHE and the SOLINET in 1998.

In 2006, the Society of Georgia Archivists created a disaster preparedness committee that worked with ARCHE and SOLINET to update Shelter from the Stormy Blast. The result is the current online publication, which will be reviewed and updated annually.
